the available litterature on Genus Hermeuptychia is not really consistent.

the only recent publication that we know of is by Seraphim (2014) whose work includes the DNA sequencing of nearly all known species, but with a particular focus on Brasilian fauna.

today our identifications are based exclusively on the butterflies morphology and their altitudinal range, and will undoubtedly fall to pieces when we have some sequencing of our specimens.

there are identification problems with nearly all Hermeuptychia species, but these problems are almost intractable with the cucullina-pimpla-maimoune Group species.

we found this Genus on the Eastern slopes of Sangay NP, and in the lower half of the upper Pastaza valley, between 700 and 1700 meters.
