Heliconius hecale flies throughout tropical America and is a highly variable species ; in Holzinger (1994) there are 28 different subspecies, each one having a good number of forms !
normally, in Ecuador (Oriente) flies H. h. quitalenus, but we see our specimen closer to H. h. ithaca from Central and Eastern Colombia and to H. h. felix from Peru.
