wingspan : 95/105 mm

Caligo illioneus subspecies are seriously questionable, and, to compound the problem, it is often very difficult to tell C. illioneus from C. teucer if you cannot see the upperside of the wings.

this species flies usually at moderate elevations, but on both sides of the Andes.

it is present at Quebrada Cugusha, 1700 meters, and also along rio Shankaime, 900 m and near Puyo, Macas and Sucúa.

we suppose the Sangay ssp to be praxsodius.
