Male

wingspan : 41/52 mm

we found Racta dalla near Tinguichaca and Tambillo at an elevation of 3000 m.

Racta dalla is said to be extremely scarce a species - no more than five known specimens - but there is a doubt. Racta dalla lives at 3000 meters, in places where bad weather is the rule : clouds, rain, wind and cold, and to fly it needs sun.

we think it is not a rare butterfly but a species that seldom flies in never visited places.

it is worth noting that all Sangay specimens - they all come from the Tinguichaca area - are clearly black and yellow, while specimens collected at the Loja/Zamora border are definitely black and ivory.

the FWUP yellow markings are somewhat variable, and the HWUN present visible differences;

but if the yellows look different, it comes more from the pictures than from the specimens themselves.
