Male

env.  30 mm

in the Oriente Siseme alectryo is a common butterfly that we saw from la Bonita down to Zamora - we never found it West of the Andes.

and everywhere we found ssp spectanda, which is the Ecuadorian ssp.

but, on two different locations, at Machay, in the upper Pastaza valley, 1800 m, and farther North, near Baeza, 2000 m, we found a very few specimens which look exactly like the nominal ssp, ssp which is said to fly in Western Colombia ?

it should be noted that these specimens fly together with spectanda, that they are markedly different - we're not talking variations - and that we never saw any intermediate form ? (see individual variation page).
