Battus crassus flies from Costa Rica to the entire Amazon basin (Bollino & Onore 2001). in the Oriente flies subspecies Battus crassus crassus.

we found it at San Isidro, near rios Pastaza and Shankaime where we also collected a male which looks quite like subspecies B. crassus lepidus which flies on the other side of the Andes.

Battus crassus al Norte del Parque
Battus crassus crassus cerca de Huamboya
Battus crassus crassus cerca de Huamboya
Battus crassus crassus cerca de San Isidro

the second specimen is quite similar to B. crassus lepidus which flies West of the Andes,
although it was collected the same day on the same spot (at rio Shankaime) as the first one.
