this skipper is Pyrrhopyge papius papius as indicated by its DNA ; Pyrrhopyge papius papius and P. melanomerus patma are sometimes quite common in the Eastern half of Sangay NP, generally between 1000 and 2000 m.
both species look exactly the same, and it is impossible to tell wether the bottom butterflies are P. papius or P. melanomerus ; nevertheless, in Sangay NP, P. papius is rather common while P. melanomerus seems to be scarce.
