wingspan : 31 mm
for a long time we had two different pages for this type of Vanessa, this one, Vanessa carye, and another one for Vanessa annabella. the reasons that drove us to do that were :
1 - we only had a very few specimens,
2 - there were visible differences,
3 - and there were big differences in size, from 35 to 48 mm.
but it was not a good idea and we're back to one quite variable species Vanessa carye.
all these butterflies come from the Western limits of Sangay NP as this species is quite rare on the Eastern slopes.
