we collected this specimen of Punapedaliodes flavopunctata (identified by TWP) at over 3000 m near Azogues ;
this butterfly was not known from this area, it normally flies in Bolivia and Peru.
we learn from Tomascz Pyrcz that one only specimen of Punapedaliodes flavopunctata was ever collected in Ecuador, but in the Cordillera las Lagunillas which marks the border with Peru.
we found our specimen 300 km farther North.
