wingspan : 32/35 mm
Niconiades linga quite common at San Isidro, by rio Tutamangosa and near Mendez.
Kim Garwood draws our attention to the fact that Niconiades linga flies in Southern Brasil, which makes its presence in Sangay NP unlikely ;
it is true, but our specimens look exactly like butterfliesofamerica holotype,
and we already found in Sangay NP, as well as in the Reserva Ecológica Cotacahi Cayapas, butterflies "the range of which is 2000 km away from Ecuador" : Ancyluris aristodorus, Rareuptychia clio, Cyclosma altama and many more.
so, for the time being we keep the name Niconiades linga, and, someday, genitalia will tell wether it is linga or a different but identical species ?
