Heliconius hecuba apparently flies at elevations of about 1500/2000 meters ;
not common, very localized. it flies with Elzunia humboldt in the 9 de Octubre and the Rio Negro areas, the two species being quite similar ; but the two forms that fly near Rio Negro are quite different from those from 9 de Octubre ! Heliconius hecuba has many subspecies (or forms ?) with small and intricate geographic zones ; the form from Rio Negro could be choarina ?
