wingspan : male 67/70, female 67/80 mm
Parides erithalion, with many subspecies, flies from Mexico to Argentina. for the sole Ecuador there are three subspecies, P. e. lacydes being at the same time, the commonest and the one that flies in the Park.
we saw it near Rio Negro, on the uphill road between Macas and 9 de Octubre and near Sucúa and Mendez.
the female, black and white, is clearly different from any other butterfly, except that it looks like the female of Mimoides xeniades xeniades; these two females, although belonging to two different genuses, are nearly identical, and fly together (see the picture at Mimoides xeniades xeniades entry, n°114).
