Pterourus cacicus upanensis is an uncommon butterfly ; in Ecuador, Bollino & Onore know it from rio Upano, from rio Pastaza and from the Cordillera de los Huacamayos, at elevations between 1500 and 2300 meters.
we saw a male, but did not collect it, at Quebrada Cugusha 1700 m, and another battered specimen at el Corral (Rio Negro) 1400 m.
the male is uncommon, the female is very rare.
