Castilia castilla occidentalis flies in Colombia and Ecuador (d’Abrera 1987).
it seems to be quite common ; we saw it on the road to 9 de Octubre, near Macas, Sucúa, Rio Negro and in the rio Paute valley.
females have two different forms - see individual variation.
there are two forms of the female, white, or red, patches on the FW ; the red patch form seems to be rare in Sangay NP.
