Pterourus euterpinus “has isolated populations from North-Central Peru to Central Colombia” (Bollino & Onore 2001). in Ecuador “this species is always isolated and rare”, and flies at elevations between 1200 and 2500 meters.
however we once saw – but it was in 2002 – three males of Pterourus euterpinus gliding above a quebrada near Mera, at 1000 meters ; we saw another male in the rio Paute valley.
the female looks like the male, but is extremely rare.
