Male

Female

esta hembra viene de Gualaceo

wingspan : 38/40 mm

once in many years Catasticta incerta may be abundant in the rio Paute valley, but, generally, it is quite uncommon.

the female is extremely rare, as is the case for many Catastictas.

we do not know the geographic distribution of this Catasticta sp that flies in the South of Ecuador, although we saw it near Limón, between Zamora and Loja, near Vilcabamba, and also West of Cuenca.

we also found Catasticta incerta in the upper Pastaza valley ; and, in this valley, we have a new subspecies : concerta.

we believe (see new facts and individual variation pages) that concerta simply does not exist, even though it has been "described".

we do not know how many specimens were available to base the description of ssp concerta ? it is true that Catasticta incerta seems to be quite scarce in the upper Pastaza valley.

nevertheless we collected two specimens in that area, one at Machay, another one at Vizcaya,
        - these two specimens are clearly not the same,
        - and neither of them looks like the type of concerta, how is it possible ? (it should furthermore be noted that this "type" was  apparently purchased from a local collector)

and last, for all the Catasticta incerta we may have seen (in Sangay NP and farther South),
        - we observed that it is a variable species,
        - and we noted it is extremely easy to confuse specimens from Pastaza upper valley with those from Vilcabamba or from West of Cuenca.

below three specimens, one from the upper Pastaza valley (supposed to be ssp concerta), one from Gualaceo, and one collected West of Cuenca, but in what sequence ?
