Male

wingspan : 72 mm.

in 2007 we took these pictures of an old butterfly at rio Shankaime ; we thought it was Panacea chalcothea, a very rare species.

but in 2011 we saw another one near Pablo Sexto, and today, in a private collection, we found a specimen collected twenty years ago just out of Macas.

it is said it could be either a true species, or a subspecies of P. regina, Panacea chalcothea or Panacea regina chalcothea ? but P. regina victrix also flies on these same three spots, so it seems difficult to consider it a subspecies of Panacea regina.

in addition Gerardo Lamas thinks it could be a high elevation species ? but we found it between 900 and 1100 meters.
