four ssp or forms of H. melpomene fly in Sangay NP : H. m. plesseni, H. m. ecuadorensis, H. m. malletti and H. m. plesseni f. mimetica,
for about twenty years (1985-2005), the mixed form presented here and on the individual variation page was quite common North and East of Puyo. to day this form is no longer so present as it used to be.
butterflies very similar to H. m. malletti, but with a red rim on the subapical patch; probably the commonest cross-breed.
