Tatochila mercedis arctodice is a high altitude species which is said to fly from Colombia to Peru (d’Abrera 1981) ; this butterfly is found at up to 4000 meters on the Chimborazo.
these specimens were collected near Riobamba at 3300/3500 meters (Chantiag), we saw other specimens at las Culebrillas, 3300 m, at Osogoche, 3800 m, and many around Riobamba.
females areextremely variable, males are not.
