Battus madyes flies in the Andes, from Ecuador to Argentina ; subspecies B. m. philetas flies in Ecuador Oriente between 1500 and 2500 meters (Bollino and Onore 2001) although we collected one male, East of Rio Negro, at an elevation of 1000 meters.
we saw Battus madyes also North of Mera, near 9 de Octubre and along rio Paute.
Battus madyes female is extremely rare, this one comes from Vizcaya near Baños.
