Altinote tenebrosa seems to fly between 800 and 2500 meters, found sometimes in great numbers in the Oriente, from Baeza all the way down to Zamora. found in the Baños/Puyo Corridor, from 1000 up to 2600 meters, and in the 9 de Octubre area, and also along rio Paute.

males show very little variation, but females are highly variable as evidenced on these specimens, and on the females in situ pictures, all shot on the same spot - Runtun, 2600 m - and on the same day.
