at a distance of five kilometers we collected two Hesperocharis nera that would belong to two different subspecies ; this one, with a strong black rim on the HWUP, would be H. n. amazonica from the Amazon basin, while the other one, with a weak dotted rim, would be H. n. nera ...


and the same thing happens farther North where we found the same two phenotypes flying near Tena.


 

these two butterflies were collected the same day, within five kilometers from each other ;

the specimen on the left is a typical Hesperocharis nera amazonica, the one on the right, a typical H. n. aida.
